History of St Dominic Savio Parish

Founded as a formal parish community in 1970, St. Dominic Savio Catholic Church is a Salesian parish, which means the parish is primarily served by priests who are members of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB). St. Dominic Savio – the parish namesake – was an Italian student of St. John Bosco, the founder of the Salesian order.

Our Priests

Over the years

Rev. George Atok SDB

October 2023 – Present

Fr. George Atok began his ministry in St. Dominic Savio on October 15, 2023. He began his Salesian life in his native Philippines, professing on April 26, 1973. He was ordained in 1982 in Manila, Philippines. In the Philippines, he served as a youth minister in several parishes. When he came to the Salesian Province of Canada and Eastern USA in 1990, he worked in schools (Tampa, Boston, Marrero) and parishes (Elizabeth, 12th Street, and Surrey), as well as serving on the retreat team in Haverstraw.

Rev. Sagayaraj “Saga” Devadoss, SDB

July 2018 – May 2023

Fr. Saga was appointed as pastor of St. Dominic Savio Parish in July 2018. The Parish of St. Dominic Savio was originally started by the Salesians in the late 1960s. When Fr. Saga took charge of the parish, it had been with the diocesan priests for some years. To bring back the Salesian spirit to the parish, Fr. Saga had to labor intensively with truly a Salesian heart with all the groups of the parish. He was instrumental in trying to establish ADMA and the Sodality of St. Joseph at St. Dominic Savio Parish. He was meticulous in preparing for the community liturgy and leading the daily community prayers. He had subtle ways of being funny and would come up with jokes at the right time.

The Salesian community in Edmonton, especially the parishioners at St. Dominic Savio Parish, certainly miss him. We wish him all the best in his new responsibility in his home province of Chennai, India.

Rev. Gabriel UDEH

2015 – 2018

Father Gabriel UDEH served as the Pastor of St. Dominic Parish from 2015 – 2018. Father Gabriel concluded his term of service in the Archdiocese of Edmonton when he was reassigned by his Bishop in 2018. His devotion to the Eucharist has been a great example to all. Father Gabriel was well-known for including many songs in his homily. We thank Father Gabriel for 11 years of generous priestly ministry in the Archdiocese of Edmonton.

2010 – 2015

Father Joseph grew up in India as the oldest of three children. He was ordained to the priesthood in India on May 1, 1997, and moved to Canada in 2005. He was appointed Pastor of St. Dominic Savio in 2010.
