The Sacrament of Baptism is often called “the door of the Church,” because once baptized, a person becomes a member of the Church – and not just in this parish, but of the whole Catholic Church worldwide.

Our parish offers Baptism after the 11:30 am Sunday Mass on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. Scheduling is done on, before or after parents/sponsors (godparents) attend the Baptism Preparation Course. Please ensure the date is available before making other preparations in case the date you are hoping for is not available.

To confirm availability of date please contact Baptism Ministry Leader at 780-473-4259 ext 3.

Starting in January 2024 Baptism will be celebrated in our parish on 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month after 11:30 am Mass.

The last day to baptize for 2023 is December 10th and the first baptism in 2024 will be January 21. Our first baptism prep course will be on January 18, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom (scroll down to register).

The Sacrament of Baptism for infants to age 7 is the first of the Sacraments of Initiation by which your child becomes a member of the Body of Christ, the Church. In the waters of Baptism, your child participates in the dying and rising to new life with Jesus.

Through Baptism, a child begins a journey of faith with God, supported by the Catholic Christian Community. St. Dominic Savio Parish considers the Celebration of Baptism a special time for family, friends, and the entire parish community.

Please Note: One sponsor, male or female, is sufficient; but there may be two, one of each [sex] (c.873). The sponsor must NOT be either the father or the mother of the one to be baptized (c.874 §1,5°). The sponsor must have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, be a practicing Catholic, and be at least 16 years of age (c.874). The reception of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) of the sponsor is to be verified (c. 874 § 1, 2°- 4°).
